The Dynamic Energy of Communication

Communication consists simply of the actions of sending and receiving.

While this may seem like a comment that's obvious to the point of DUH! think for a moment about the last time you attempted to send a message to someone who was unwilling to hear it. Perhaps you were having a conversation with someone who didn't want to hear what you were saying. By shutting down their receivers, they effectively stopped the dynamic of communication.

This is not communication. This is one-sided conversation.

True communication is free flowing and balanced.

When communication is at its best there is an open and easy flow to it. The energy between the sender and the receiver is balanced, with neither leaning into the conversation to compensate for the other's lack of participation.

Recently during a coaching call where the focus was on effective communication, I was sent a vision (and willingly received it, completing the balanced dynamic of communication!) of two people standing facing each other with a beautiful white feather floating between them. As one spoke, the feather moved toward the other until it was plastered on their face. The white feather represented the balance of energy during the conversation.

You can use this vision, or one similar, to assist you in creating and maintaining an open and balanced flow of energy during your communications with others. Try it now. Replay a difficult or unsatisfactory conversation you recently had with someone. Imagine both of you facing each other with a beautiful white feather between you. During the conversation, how does the feather move?
