Success,
Dahling!
With
the beginning of each year, resolutions are made and goals set.
All of them have one thing in common: the desire for success.
What
is success? The definition of success according to several dictionaries
is:
The
attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence.
There
are plenty of books written by authors who tout that they have the
secret that will make you richer than rich. There are magazines
dedicated to advising how to gain wealth and then how to best exhibit
it. There are an uncountable number of "wealth and success gurus"
who give seminars promising that they'll teach you how to become
just as fabulously wealthy and, thus, successful as they are.
These
are just a few of the resources available to help you attain fabulous
amounts of wealth and thus become successful. That is, if
you use the attainment of wealth as a measurement of success.
The
truth is, you can have all the money, fame, and expensive toys in
the world and still feel like a failure. If you don't feel successful
in your heart and soul, then despite what these wealth gurus say,
you're not successful.
Most
definitions of success come from other people. But here's
the deal: the most important definition of success is YOUR definition.
It may be untold wealth, or it may be a quiet, simple life of service
to others, such as being the best teacher, parent, or health practitioner
you can be. The most important thing is that it's YOUR definition,
and not someone else's.
True
success resides in your heart. You know when you have success because
of how you feel, not how big the number is in your bank account
or how many islands you own. We've all heard stories of some fabulously
wealthy person who, despite the monumental amount of their acquisitions,
still feels unsatisfied with their life.
As
Albert Schweitzer said: "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness
is the key to success." If you love what you're doing, you are
successful.
Take
inventory of the people you know or know of. Which of them would
you deem to be successful? Of these, which ones do you believe to
be following their heart and passionately living their Life Purpose.
How would you like to be among that group?
To
YOUR success, dahling!
Love,
Kathy

If you're having trouble discerning just what success means to you,
read Chapter 5 of An
Inner Journey. Then do the exercises.
