Adjusting the Focus of Your Inner Vision

For his birthday this year, I gave my husband one of those "pocket" cameras so he could take pictures of all the things he sees when fishing or working in the mountains. He comes home and tells me about seeing beautiful, wonderful things, but as they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

My husband got more than just a camera. He's also the lucky recipient of the wads of knowledge I learned from photography classes I took years ago, which I'm happy to share with him.

Many years ago I got into photography for a while and took some classes from an award-winning photojournalist. The things I learned in those classes sure opened the "aperture" of my mind about photography.

One of the things I learned was to look around the edges the viewfinder before taking the picture. This simple practice saves the picture-taker from the disappointment of discovering that important parts of the photo subject have been cut off.

The techniques used when taking pictures with a camera can be used to add emphasis and power to your visualizations for manifesting. For example:

  • Look around the edges of your vision to make sure you've got all of what you want in the picture and nothing of what you don't want.
  • Make sure the focus is clear and sharp, not fuzzy and out-of-focus. All of it. If part of it seems out of focus, imagine using the depth of field technique so the entire vision is clear and sharp.
  • If the image is smallish, enlarge it to life-size... or even larger. Use your telephoto lens to bring it closer and make it as huge you possibly can and still see the entire thing.
  • Put yourself in the picture. If you want a car, see yourself in it. Maybe see yourself driving with the window down and your hair being blown by the wind. Every great photo has a subject, and in your vision that's YOU!
  • Adjust the color. Your vision should be in color, not black and white or sepia. Full, brilliant color makes it more authentic and real. Adjust the colors until they're rich, deep, full.
  • Adjust the brightness. Bring up the lighting a bit, especially if your vision is a bit shadowy or dark. Put a spotlight or floodlight on it. Shine the light on what you want!
  • Make it a movie. See yourself in action, having a grand time enjoying the thing you want to manifest.
  • Use contrast to make your subject "grab the eye". If the subject of your vision is light, use a dark background to make it really stand out. Or vice versa.

Play with these photographic techniques during your visualization practices and have fun with them. Be creative! After all, that's what manifesting is - creating!

Love,
Kathy

Book o' the Month

Books have always been an important part of my life. Because I love books so much, I want to share with you those that especially excite me. This month's selection is...

Explosive Eighteen
by Janet Evanovich

I don't know about you, but I'm soooo ready for some really big hoo hahs. I've had enough of the doom and gloom of winter, news about our depressed economy, our polluted environment, wars, our political situation, blah, blah, on and on.

When I want a break from a depressing world, I grab a Janet Evanovich book. Not only are they a hoot, but the characters in them make my life look like a peaceful haven. I get instant relief the minute I open one of Evanovich's books and start reading. Within minutes I'm lost in a wacky world where people are on the fringes of total bizarrity.

  • Stephanie Plum, the heroine, is a bounty hunter in Trenton, New Jersey, who has a knack for getting herself into the weirdest situations. It's only by sheer dumb luck that she ever aprehends her FTAs (Failed to Appear in court). Of course, some of them are a bit bizarre. Such as the 72 year old man who believed he was a vampire and had the dentures with fangs to prove it. Or the wily guy kept "borrowing" her car.
  • Lula is Stephanie's best friend and bounty-hunting partner. She was hired to do filing in the bonding company office after she retired from being a 'ho, but likes adventuring with Stephanie better. She somehow manages to fit her plus size into petite clothes of questionable taste and design.
  • Vinnie is Stephanie's cousin and boss. He owns the bonding company - well, he and his father-in-law Harry the Hammer.
  • Grandma Mazur who lives with Stephanie's parents and whose favorite pastime is going to viewings at funeral parlors. She always carries a big purse - one that her .45, which she got at a garage sale, fits into.
  • Stephanie's two loves - Joe Morelli, a Jersey cop. and Ranger, bounty hunter extraordinaire with his own security company who operates just a hair above illegal.

Brighten up your world with a Stephanie Plum book by Janet Evanovich. You'll be laughing out loud at some of the antics Stephanie and her co-horts get into. And remember - laughing is good for your health, both physical and emotional.

And you'll be happier still that your life looks nothing like the wacked-out lives of the characters in the Stephanie Plum series!

You might want to start with her first book, One for the Money. It's been made into a movie and is coming to a theatah near you the end of January.

Essential Oil of the Month

Lemon Myrtle
(Backhousia citriodora - member of the Myrtaceae family)

Lemon myrtle essential oil, when taken internally, boosts the body's natural defenses. An extremely potent antibacterial and germicide, Lemon Myrtle is a much more effective germ killer than the more familiar Tea Tree. Anecdotal evidence shows a much lower than expected number of coughs, colds and sinus problems in households that regularly diffuse the oil. It can also be used as a cleansing agent to purify household surfaces.

Aromatically, lemon myrtle has a powerful lemon scent, even stronger than lemon essential oil. The fresh aroma is uplifting and refreshing, which may help clear the mind to enhance concentration or promote a peaceful night's sleep.

It makes a lovely winter oil, with its combination of a cheerful lemon scent and its proven germicidal activity.

Suggestions of how to use it:

  • Add 2 - 4 drops to hot bathwater, lie back, and enjoy!
  • Deeply inhale the aroma directly from the bottle
  • Diffuse (I use a misting fountain and the whole house smells fresh!)
  • Apply 1-2 drops to the heart chakra, on wrists, neck, temples, and forehead (third eye chakra).
  • Add to massage oil for an incredible experience
  • Put 4-8 drops on a cotton ball and locate it over a heating vent
  • Share a few drops with your loved ones

To obtain the fullest aromatic benefits of this oil, after applying it rub the palms of your hands together briskly to warm the oil on them. Then cup them and place them over your nose. Take three deep breaths This brings the minute oil particles deep into your nasal passages, where their energy imprint is picked up by the Olfactory nerve and taken to the Amygdala gland - the control center of all your emotions and the release of all hormones.

Young Living essential oils are steam distilled from the leaves and stems of 100% organic plants. Unlike other brands of essential oils, there are no chemicals used in the processing of the plants. Nor are there chemicals or other ingredients added to dilute or damage the natural healing properties of the oils.
