Confessions
of an Adrenaline Junkie
It
was when I'd been a real estate agent for a couple of years that
I first realized I had an addiction.
What
triggered this new awareness was that I hadn't seen the top of my
desk for about a year. It was perpetually covered with files, flyers
for open houses and properties for sale, ads, letters answered and
unanswered, and phone messages I'd kept for reasons long forgotten.
Each time I looked at my desk or thought of all the work it represented
I got a rush of energy coursing through my body.
I
had addiction to adrenaline.
The
symptoms of being an adrenaline junkie had always been with me,
but had become more obvious in the high stress world of real estate.
All my life I'd been a worrier, causing my body to constantly output
a higher level of adrenaline than normal. I always found something
to be fearful about, something to fret about, which then triggered
my adrenals to spurt out more of their go-juice into my bloodstream.
Oh
sure, I had tons of energy and was very physically active. But all
that energy wasn't coming from a source of great health or delighted
excitement about my life. It was caused by the constant raising
of my adrenaline level from fear. Some call it "nervous energy".
By
the time I was beginning to recognize my addiction, there were additional
symptoms other than an unbelievably messy desk. Amongst them was
heart palpitations. But I told myself it was just too much coffee
that day or some other lame excuse.
One
day I sold a parcel of land with a bonus to the selling agent -
a trip to Hawaii! I excitedly called my best friend within days
we were lolling on the beach at Waikiki.
By
the third day of this vacation from my stressful life back home
I noticed I was no longer having heart palpitations. Nor did they
reappear during the remainder of the vacation. But on my way home,
the moment I crossed the city limits I felt the familiar uneven
thumpity-thump in my chest.
That
did it. Okay, so it might take me a while to get the message, but
eventually I usually do get it. The message was that it was
time for me to take control of my life and de-stress it.
The
human body cannot live at the level of intensity caused by constant
high adrenaline output. Sooner or later something will give. That's
when blood pressure and cholesterol rise to dangerous limits and
illnesses appear - illnesses like fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
The
purpose of adrenaline, as you probably already know, is to give
your body extra go-power so it can have the strength to deal with
a dangerous situation or get out of the way of the danger. However,
adrenaline junkies, such as "Type A personalities", are
living with a continual high. Until they're struck down by disabling
disease most adrenaline junkies don't recognize their addiction
... and sometimes not even then do they face it.
I
loved the excitement, the constant pressure, the danger, and the
fear that the competitive atmosphere of real estate provided. I
felt like I was really living and I loved it. Little did
I realize the damage that the constant high adrenaline level was
having on my body - until my heart started acting up.
Are
you an adrenaline junkie? Take this test to determine the possibility
that you, too, might be addicted to adrenaline:
1.
Are you constantly running through your mental list of all the
things you have to do? Especially when you're not at work?
2. Do you believe you absolutely must be doing the most productive
thing at all times?
3.
Is multitasking your norm?
4.
Is news on TV a necessary part of your day? Bonus points if you
watch morning, noon, and evening TV news. And double bonus points
if you watch the news at bedtime.
5.
Do you schedule your day in 15 minute increments or less?
6.
Is your idea of relaxing to watch or participate in a highly competitive
sport such as hockey, soccer, or football?
If
you answered "Yes" to more than two of these questions,
you probably are an adrenaline junkie, too.

Book
o' the Month
Books
have always been an important part of my life. One of my most favorite
jobs was working at a bookstore. I'd gaze around the store in amazement
at all of the wondrous knowledge that was available to me in all
the thousands of books that were gathered together in this one place.
It was like having all of the wisest people in all the world
in all of history right in front of me, ready to share the
best and juiciest parts of their wisdom with me. Picking up a book
and reading it was like walking up to them and saying, "tell
me the best of all that you know". And so they did... each
time I would open their books and read their words.
Because
I love books soooooo much, I want to share with you those that especially
excite me. This month's selection is...
Zibu:
The Power of Angelic Symbology by
Debbie Z.
I
met Debbie at a metaphysical bookstore where she was signing copies
of her just-published book during their psychic fair. We
chatted for a while and she shared her path of how she went from
being an executive secretary to channeling angelic symbols.
She
said that when she was beginning her secretarial career, she took
some shorthand classes. She discovered a natural talent for that
style of writing and was so good at it that she soon was assisting
the teacher in class. Of course, her ability served her well as
she advanced in her career.
Years
later, she became interested in calligraphy and began practicing
it as a hobby. Like shorthand, it seemed to come naturally to her
and she loved it.
One
day as she was writing her daily journal, an angelic being came
to her and gave her the first of many symbols along with the interpretation.
The angel explained that Zibu is an ancient healing language expressed
as symbols.
I
found it fascinating how, on her path through life, she was being
trained first through shorthand and then calligraphy in preparation
for her most important work of drawing the Zibu Angel Symbols.
These
beautiful symbols can be used in many ways:
-
drawn over doorways for angelic protection
- in
the garden to enhance the health of your plants
- as
wall art to radiate the wonderful energy throughout a room
- on
the body as henna or permanent tatoos
- worn
as the beautiful pieces of jewelry that Debbie creates
I
have Gratitude (the symbol on the book cover) on the office of my
wall, to radiate that energy and remind me of all that I have to
be grateful for. Often, I draw it over my heart so that the energy
of gratitude is enhanced within me and is with me wherever I go.
On
my checkbook cover I have the symbols for Prosperity and Unlimited
Abundance. I'm always surprised that I have an abundance of funds
in my checking account.
Often
when I share the healing energy of Reiki with clients, I'll use
a Zibu symbol to inhance a specific energy, such as Inner Peace,
Nurture, Release, and Vitality.
Get
the whole collection of 88 symbols in Debbie's book Zibu:
The Power of Angelic Symbology and discover how you'll be
inspired to use them to benefit you in your daily life. As the Angel
Zephyrine shared with Debbie:
"Zibu
symbols open up energetic portals
for Heavenly transformation."
Essential
Oil of the Month
R.C.
|
This
blend of essential oils was created to give relief from:
-
colds
-
bronchitis
- sore
throats
-
sinusitis
-
coughs
- respiratory
congestion
In
fact, the name R.C. is an abbreviation for Respiratory Congestion.
|
These
oils were blended for the purpose of decongesting sinus passages,
combating lung infections, and relieving allergy symptoms.
It's
a must to have R.C. in your cabinet in case you or your family members
succumb to colds or flu this winter.
I
use it whenever my sinuses act up due to smoke and other pollutants
in the air, and on the rare occasion that I get a cold. Within minutes
I feel relief from the pain and stuffiness. Plus it smells really
good!
Suggestions
of how to use it:
- Apply
on the chest, neck, throat, and over sinus areas (cheeks and over
eyebrows).
- Add
2 - 4 drops to hot bathwater
- Directly
inhale
- Diffuse
(I use a misting fountain and the whole house smells fresh!)
- Use
as a hot compress
- Include
in the oils for Raindrop Therapy
- Apply
to Reflexology points for lungs and sinuses
- Put
a drop or two on your pillowcase to relieve nighttime stuffiness
Oils
included in this blend:
- Eucalyptus
Globulus
is antimicrobial, an expectorant, mucolytic, and antiviral
- Eucalyptus
Radiata
is antibacterial, antiviral, and expectorant, and anti-inflammatory.
- Eucalyptus
Citriodora
is a decongestant and disinfects the sinuses and lungs
- Myrtle
is a sinus decongestant and alleviates throat infections. It's
used to help treat chronic coughs and tuberculosis.
- Pine
opens and disinfects the respiratory system, particularly the
bronchial tract.
- Spruce
is anti-infectioius, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic
- Marjoram
is anti-infectious, antibacterial, antiseptic, and reduces spasms
- Lavender
is antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic
- Cypress
promotes blood circulation and lymph flow. It's anitbacterial,
mucoloytic, and antimicrobial.
- Peppermint
is a powerful lung and nasal decongestant with antiseptic properties.
It kills airborne bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
To
obtain the fullest aromatic benefits of this oil, after
applying it rub the palms of your hands together briskly to warm
the oil on them. Then cup them and place them over your nose. Take
three deep breaths This brings the minute oil particles deep into
your nasal passages, where their energy imprint is picked up by
the Olfactory nerve and taken to the Amygdala gland - the control
center of all your emotions and the release of all hormones.
Young
Living essential oils are steam distilled from the leaves and stems
of 100% organic plants. Unlike other brands of essential oils, there
are no chemicals used in the processing of the plants. Nor are there
chemicals or other ingredients added to dilute or damage the natural
healing properties of the oils.
