A Very Special Birthday Gift It's that time of year again. Yep. It's time to celebrate the day I was born - December 3, 1945 (12345 in case you want an easy way to remember it!). This is a landmark birthday for me, representing a transition from one decade to the next - from fifty-something to sixty-something - and I'm giving myself a very special gift this year. In my early years, the thought of giving myself a present on my birthday would have been aberrant to me. Luckily for me I met a woman who gave me a most wonderful gift that I continue to enjoy each year at this special time - an empowered birthday. She and I met many years ago, and during one of our conversations I was complaining about my thoughtless boyfriend-at-the time who was being a real butt head about my birthday. He hadn't even bothered to get me a card. When I wound down from my rant, she shared with me her story about a birthday gift she unexpectedly received one year. At the time she received this gift, she too had a thoughtless boyfriend who had been neglectful to her on her special day. After she waded through the initial shock of hurt and anger, she realized that she had put the entire burden of responsibility for her happiness, or lack thereof, for this day on another person. She decided in that moment to create her own birthday celebration, and has continued to do so ever since. As a result of receiving this miraculous gift of empowerment, she always has a wonderful birthday. I thanked her for sharing her gift with me and chose to use it each year. Instead of giving my power away to others while I passively wait for them to do something that will make me feel special, I empower myself to create my own birthday celebration. Since I began to celebrate empowered birthdays every birthday has been a wonderful experience. I've enjoyed private retreats at the ocean, gatherings with friends for dinner, spa days, and trips with my husband. Would these special times have happened if I'd just sat around waiting for someone else to create my birthday for me? Maybe. Maybe not. I do know that by chosing to have an empowered birthday I remove the stress of wondering. And there's a marvelous bonus to empowered birthdays. Now when I receive a gift or a card from someone on my birthday, it's a fabulous surprise and enhances an already wonderful experience, making it even grander! This year as I celebrate becoming 60 years old, my birthday present to myself is a 3 day seminar entitled "The Millionaire Mind" with T. Harv Eker. What better way to kick off this new phase of my life than with a life enhancing seminar? What will you create for your next birthday celebration? Love, p.s.
