More One Minute Retreats

Oh, to just get away from it all! The stress, the worries, the pressures of everyday life. Not to mention the dreaded Holiday Stress! arghhhhhhhh!

All this working, doing, and being so busy is adding huge amounts of stress to your life. It probably comes as no surprise to you that stress related diseases are on the rise in the US.

You may not be able to afford the time or money to go on an extended retreat to a spa or health resort in the desert or mountains to reduce your stress level, but you can take a one minute retreat.

One minute retreats are short - very short - retreats from your everyday world. They allow you to retreat from the hurry skurry of the outside world to the peaceful serenity of your inside world. Most of them you can do wherever you are at the moment. Afterward, you'll feel refreshed and renewed.

Here's a few One Minute Retreats you can do now to relax yourself and relieve some of your stress:

  • Listen Close your eyes and listen to the sounds nearest you. Now move your awareness outward a bit and focus on those sounds for a few seconds. Then move your attention outward again, listening intently to the sounds you hear. Finally, move your hearing out until you're listening to the farthest sound you can hear.
  • The Ticker Tape Close your eyes. Take a deep, relaxing breath. Become aware of your thoughts as they cross your conscious mind. Just allow each one to arise, move across your consciousness as if it's a ticker tape, and then disappear. Refrain from judging any of them. Be in a place similar to that of watching a movie or listening to the radio. Just observe, relax, and enjoy the entertainment provided by your mind.
  • Stretch Your Legs If you work at a desk your legs could use some stretching occasionally. Stand up and continue the upward movement until you're on your tip toes. Then gently settle back down onto the soles of your feet. Move your weight backwards until your toes are in the air and your weight is resting on your heels. Repeat this a few times. You may want to hold onto something for balance. You'll almost be able to hear your legs and feet sigh with relief.
  • Half Hang From a standing position, slowly bend your head forward. Then begin to slowly curl downward starting with your upper back, then middle back, and lastly lower back. Allow the top half of your body to just hang loosely with your knees slightly bent. Let all the stress in your body flow out of you through your fingertips. When you're ready, slowly reverse the process and un-curl until you're once again standing upright. Ahhhhhhh!
  • Smell a Tree Flowers aren't the only flora that smells good. Trees have aromas, too. Cedars and Redwoods have a delightful, almost fruity scent to their needles. Pine trees are pungent. Maple leaves smell sweet yet musky. Tree bark has a distinctive aroma that's different from the greenery. When you smell a tree you're exchanging breaths with it. You inhale the oxygen-rich aroma of it and exhale your carbon-dioxide-rich aroma for it to breathe.

Love,
Kathy

ps. Here's the meaning I assign to the word "retreat": getting to treat myself again to something wonderful, like a reward. There's a whole chapter on rewards in my book, An Inner Journey: Living Your Life Purpose. Reward yourself and read a bit of it here.

NEW Online Class!!

A pendulum can be used as a divination tool for many purposes. Most commonly it's thought of as a tool to get a "yes" or "no" answer to a question, but it's far more versatile than that, as you'll discover in this online class. It's a simple yet powerful tool for acquiring quick, accurate answers to basic questions.

Book o' the Month

Books have always been an important part of my life. One of my most favorite jobs was working at a bookstore. I'd gaze around the store in amazement at all of the wondrous knowledge that was available to me in all the thousands of books that were gathered together in this one place. It was like having all of the wisest people in all the world in all of history right in front of me, ready to share the best and juiciest parts of their wisdom with me. Picking up a book and reading it was like walking up to them and saying, "tell me the best of all that you know". And so they did... each time I would open their books and read their words.

Because I love books soooooo much, I want to share with you those that especially excite me. This month's selection is...

The Little Prince
by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I was introduced to this amazing book over 30 years ago by a friend. He said it was unusual in that it could be found not only in the children's section of libraries and bookstores, but in the philosophy section as well.

The story begins when the author's plane crashes in the Sahara Desert, where he encounters an amazing little prince, who asks him to, please, if you will, draw me a sheep. Little by little, as the days progress, the author discovers more about the prince and how he came to be stranded in the desert, too.

In real life, Saint-Exupery was a pilot who, in 1935, crashed in the Sahara and wandered for days. Dangerously dehydrated to the point of hallucinating, he was found and rescued by a Bedouin. I, for one, shall be eternally grateful to that nomad. Nine years later, Saint-Exupery wrote The Little Prince, no doubt drawing on his hallucinatory experiences... or were they?

It's a beautiful story that not only entertains adults and children alike, but one that illustrates much about humanity when viewed from someone not of our world. It would make a wonderful Christmas gift for someone you love... including yourself if you don't already have it in your library.

Essential Oil of the Month

Enjoy the exquisite aroma of this delightful oil blend this holiday season and you'll find yourself believing in all kinds of wonderful things... your highest potential, miracles, world peace, and yes even Santa!

The delightful fragrance Believe helps to release the unlimited potential that you already possess, making it possible to more fully experience health, happiness, and vitality. It restores hope... something we can all use more of right now.

Suggestions of how to use it:

  • Add 2 - 4 drops to hot bathwater, lie back, and enjoy!
  • Deeply inhale the aroma directly from the bottle
  • Diffuse (I use a misting fountain and the whole house smells fresh!)
  • Apply 1-2 drops to the heart chakra, on wrists, neck, temples, and forehead (third eye chakra).
  • Add to massage oil for an incredible experience
  • Put 4-8 drops on a cotton ball and locate it over a heating vent
  • Share a few drops with your loved ones

Oils included in this blend:

  • Idaho Balsam Fir opens emotional blocks and recharges vital energy. Gives a feeling of strength and inner peace. Just smelling this oil reduces cortisol output in your body by 40%!
  • Rosewood is high in linalool, which has a relaxing, empowering effect. A very grounding oil.
  • Frankincense is a holy anointing oil in the Middle East. It stimulates the limbic part of the brain (where your emotional memory is stored), elevating the mind and spirit and helping to overcome stress and despair. It's used in European medicine to combat depression.

To obtain the fullest aromatic benefits of this oil, after applying it rub the palms of your hands together briskly to warm the oil on them. Then cup them and place them over your nose. Take three deep breaths This brings the minute oil particles deep into your nasal passages, where their energy imprint is picked up by the Olfactory nerve and taken to the Amygdala gland - the control center of all your emotions and the release of all hormones.

Young Living essential oils are steam distilled from the leaves and stems of 100% organic plants. Unlike other brands of essential oils, there are no chemicals used in the processing of the plants. Nor are there chemicals or other ingredients added to dilute or damage the natural healing properties of the oils.
