The Swing of the Pendulum Sometimes during a coaching session I'll receive the inner vision of a pendulum as it swings upward, hesitates, and then shifts direction to begin the swing in the opposite direction. That moment of hesitation is the pivotal point that allows for a proper change of direction, not only in a pendulum swing, but in life. This moment of hesitation is like the shift in your breathing from the in breath to the out breath. To demonstrate this to yourself, notice as you breathe that there is moment at the top of the in breath when nothing happens for a second, just before it shifts into the out breath. When you're changing from one direction in your life to another, this moment may seem to last forever. Usually it's no longer than a few days or weeks, even though it often seems to drag on until the end of time. The purpose, and best use of, this time is for preparation. It's meant as an opportunity to give you time to review where you've come from up 'til now and what you've learned. More importantly, this time is opportune for you to discern what you wish to leave behind and what you intend to take with you when you once again begin to move - this time in your new direction. If your moment at the top of the pendulum swing really is dragging on for weeks and months, then it's called "going through the void". The cause of this delay in movement is a lack of preparedness. It might mean that the necessary people, things, events, and circumstances aren't in place yet. Usually, though, if you're going throught the void it means that sufficient inner work hasn't been completed yet. When this occurs, the most advantageous use you can make of this time is to review what you've learned from the past and how you might use it as you move in your new direction, focusing your search for something you might have previously overlooked. Mercury retrograde is one example of a void. During this 3 week period there are typically many opportunities that present themselves to you so that you can revisit what isn't working for you and fix it. Then, once again when forward movement begins, it will be unblocked, smooth, and effortless for you. The next time your life seems to stand still, remember the swing of the pendulum. The time of non-movement is necessary. It gives you the opportunity to prepare for the next shift, making your life smoother and more effortless. Love, p.s.
