Three
Day Emotions
Many
years ago I began to notice that sometimes I'd feel angry or depressed
or happy or energized for days at a time. The emotions often had
no direct relation to anything in my life. It was quite curious.
Some
time after this profound discovery, I had another. It was that these
emotional periods typically lasted for three days. Now I was getting
somewhere.
Right
now you're probably thinking, "It's probably Manic Depression."
or what's more politically correct now, "Bipolar Disease".
It was not.
It
was the moon.
A
couple of years ago I took an astrology class given by Carol
Barbeau in which she taught us about the phases of the moon
and how they can affect us.
For
those of you who think astrology is bosh, you know how the moon
can affect the tides, right? Well, people, we're over 70% water.
Don't you think it's possible the pull of the moon might also have
some affect on our internal tides?
Carol
noted that the moon changes astrological signs every three days.
Every three days! Just like my emotions! There had to be some connection
here. As she continued in her teachings it became glaringly obvious
that I was definitely being affected by the changes in the moon.
Sometimes it was more obvious than others, but nonetheless, the
moon was pulling my emotional strings like it was a puppeteer and
I was Pinocchio.
Now
when I'm mystified by emotions that have no obvious cause, thinking
that has no connection to my current circumstances, and physical
energies that don't make sense, I know it's just another three day
moon phase.
Carol
recommended we purchase a calendar with moon phases on it, which
I did and am ever so grateful for her suggestion. It's a great relief
to know that my intense desire to clean out closets and throw unused
stuff away isn't permanent and has nothing to do with my mother's
genes. The urge will go away just as soon as the moon moves out
of Virgo.
Here's
a list of the twelve astrological signs and my brief interpretations
of how the moon might influence you when it's in each of them:
- Aries
The first sign in the zodiac, the energy of this sign is hot and
fiery, wanting to burst forth much like the birth of a baby. Like
a baby, Aries can be very focused on the needs of self. This is
a good time to start a project that you've been wanting to do
for yourself. You may feel like a child, jumping up and down wanting
to get moving. Or you may feel like screaming and throwing a tantrum.
- Taurus
This energy is almost the opposite of Aries. It's very slow-moving,
ponderous. Taurus is a very earthy sign and relates to material
things. It's a good time for planting things, such as money in
an investment. You might find yourself wanting to rest and just
set a spell as you caculate all your wealth.
- Gemini
Ruled by Mercury, this sign is all about mental activity. Typically
during this period you'll find ideas coming fast and furious,
your wit supremely sharp, and answers to problems being obviously
clear. When the moon moves out of this sign, you'll wonder if
your brain went on vacation to Tahiti.
- Cancer
This sign is ruled by the moon, so it's typically a very easy-feeling
energy. Cancer is focused on home, so prepare to suddenly notice
that the drapes in the living room need to be replaced and the
furniture just doesn't seem to be in the right places anymore.
In extreme cases, it could mean that your current home doesn't
fit and you want to move. Keep your favorite Realtor's card handy,
just in case.
- Leo
The animal for this sign is the lion, and it loves to open it's
mouth wide and roar, just to get the attention of everyone. Nobody
loves to be on stage like a Leo. During this period you may have
a sudden yen to start your own radio show, host a party, or dye
your hair green and spike it. If you can just hold out for three
days, it'll all be over.
- Virgo
This is the sign of Mr. and Mrs. Tidy. If you rarely can see the
top of your desk under all that paper and stuff, that rare time
is probably when the moon is in Virgo. It's actually okay to give
in to those bursts of desire to organize your computer files,
clean out your clothes closet, or rent a dumpster and shovel out
the back of your car.
- Libra
The glyph for this sign is the balancing scales, and it pretty
much describes the energy of Libra. When the moon is in Libra,
it's a time of balancing between choices, deliberating on the
options, and examining the issues ad infinitum until Analysis
Paralysis sets in. Don't fret. It'll be over in three days or
so, when you can once again get on with your life.
- Scorpio
The notorious sign of passion, this energy can be very high vibrationally
or it can be dark energy. Scorpio is the only sign with two animals
- the eagle and the scorpion. One flies high and one crawls on
the earth. Don't think you're going zonkers because your thoughts
and emotions flip back and forth during this three day period.
Use all the deliberation you just went through with the Libra
moon phase to direct your energy as you want it. Don't let the
scorpion sting you... fly high with the eagle.
- Sagittarius
Like Aries, Sag energy is fiery, but in this case it's not very
focused. Scattered all over the galaxy more aptly describes this
energy. It's lots of energy everywhere. You may find yourself
making 871 plans for the rest of your life. Sag is ruled by the
planet Jupiter, the planet of expansion, so whatever ideas or
plans you have during this phase will likely grow to gargantuan
proportions. It can be handy for goal setting - if you don't first
suffocate under that giant pile of notes you've just created with
all your grandiose plans.
- Capricorn
Workworkworkworkworkwork. That's Capricorn in a word. You may
find yourself rolling up your sleeves and tackling work you've
been avoiding since the last Capricorn moon phase. You may even
work on some of the ideas you had during the Sag moon.
- Aquarius
Ahhhh, a resting place after all that intense energy of the previous
month or so. Aquarius is philosophical and this moon phase is
an excellent time for cool reflection about the happenings during
all the past moon phases. You may find yourself dispassionately
viewing things from an overall perspective. This is a good thing,
since some of what you see in your retrospect may be not be an
Andy Hardy movie.
That
wasn't so bad, now. Was it? The fun part is that you get to do it
all over again.
Love,
Kathy

Today, June 16, 2010, the moon is Void of Course, which means it's
not moving. It's in Nowhereland until this evening, when it moves
into Virgo. Happy cleaning!!

Essential
Oil of the Month
Vetiver®
Vetiver
(Vetiveria zizanoides) has a heavy, earthy fragrance similar to
patchouli with a touch of lemon.
Vetiver
oil is psychologically grounding, calming, and stabilizing*.
One of the oils that is highest in sesquiterpenes, vetiver was studied
in clinical tests by Dr. Terry Friedmann and found to successfully
treat ADD and ADHD in children. Vetiver may help when coping with
stress and to recover from emotional trauma and shock.
It
is antiseptic, antispasmodic, a relaxant and circulatory stimulant.
It's used to treat arthritis and rheumatism, as well as for skin
care (oily, aging, acne, and wrinkles).
Personal
Stories
Whenever
one of my joints begins to complain with pain, I put a drop or two
of vetiver on it and within seconds I can feel warmth spreading
into the area. In fifteen minutes, the pain is lessened or completely
gone and I can freely move again.
I
shared vetiver with a friend of mine who had been wearing a brace
on her hand because of rheumatoid arthritis. Within a few minutes
after the apllication of two drops, she was pain free. She hasn't
worn her brace since, even while working at her job as a waitress
and carrying heavy plates.
One
of my classmates at Tai Chi has been experiencing great pain in
her shoulder and is facing possible surgery. I shared vetiver with
her and she spread a drop on her shoulder. At the end of class she
was moving almost normally, instead of holding her arm like a broken
wing. She said she was going to put another drop on her shoulder
and take another class right after ours!
Additional
suggestions of how to use it:
- Directly
inhale the aroma from the bottle for fragrant influence*
- Diffuse*
(always use a cold or misting diffuser)
- Apply
2 - 4 drops on location
Young
Living oil is steam distilled from the leaves and stems of 100%
