Libby
and the Christmas Tree
This
edition of the Journal of Spirited Coaching is dedicated to my friend,
Libby, who just celebrated her 95th birthday.
When
we first moved to Port Ludlow years ago, my next-door neighbor Joan
became an instant best friend. Almost every day walked around "the
loop", our name for the two mile route around the neighborhood.
The time passed quickly as we chatted about matters of consequence,
silliness, and everything in between.
One
day she told me about another of our neighbors, Libby, who had a
Christmas tree in her living room. Had it been Christmas, this wouldn't
have been an oddity. But it was June, and she'd had the tree in
her living room for two years. I was concerned that Libby might
be senile and in dire need of professional help.
The
next day as we strolled by Libby's home, she was out in her garden.
Joan introduced me and Libby invited me in to see her Christmas
tree. I was more than a little leery of being in close quarters
with this woman whom I thought was nutso, but I screwed up my courage
and went with her to view the Christmas tree.
As
I entered her home, I noticed that the Christmas tree ornaments
weren't just on the tree. They were everywhere. But these weren't
just any ornaments, she informed me. They were hand-blown collector's
ornaments... and very expensive. Some had sold for hundreds of dollars.
As
Libby described the more interesting of the ornaments, she told
the story of how she happened to have a Christmas tree in her living
room for a couple of years. She'd met a young man at a church function
and they became instant friends. He had collected these ornaments
for years, but was currently living at a friend's and had no place
to display them. They worked out a deal where he'd use her living
room as a display area and in trade would clean her house for her.
Libby
was no nut case. She was one smart woman!
Libby
and I became friends. Through the years I was privileged to enjoy
her wonderful creativity and inventiveness. To my knowledge, she's
the only homeowner in Port Ludlow (a development of strict architectural
rules and regulations that disallow any creativity) with a Fuschia
colored front door.
Her
delightful sense of playfulness brightens the days of everyone who
knows her. She dresses in brilliant colors - turquoise, hot pink,
bright purple, sunshine yellow. And although the Christmas tree
went back to its owner years ago, her house is filled with strange
and eclectic artwork. Most of it's hers but she collects any piece
of art that attracts her eye.
Her
life, like her home, is filled with the unique and unusual. If it
sounds like fun, she's up for it.
One
day I answered a knock on my front door and was greeted by Libby,
who invited me to a Banana Split Party at her house in an hour.
Of course, I accepted her invitation!
Several
of the neighbors were at the party, standing around chatting and
waiting for Libby to begin dishing up the Banana Splits. Time passed
and as I was watching the ice cream begin to melt, one of the neighbors
decided to take matters into his own hands. He started dishing up
the ice cream. I jumped in to help by peeling the bananas and slicing
them lengthwise. Libby only had one topping - chocolate fudge, her
favorite. There was a dish of almonds, but they were whole, not
sliced or chopped. Another neighbor began placing the split banana
halves on the sides of the bowls of ice cream and pouring the chocolate
topping over it all.
As
I was slicing the bananas, Libby sidled up to me and said in a stage
whisper, "So that's why they call it a Banana Split."
Turned out, she'd never had one and didn't have a clue as to how
they were made. But it sounded good to her. She wouldn't let the
small details stop her from having a Banana Split Party!
She
always comes to my annual New Year's Day Treasure Map Party and
her treasure maps are always amazing. This year her treasure map
had only pictures of women's shoes with incredibly thin and spiked
high heels. Libby said she wanted some high heels so she could feel
sexy.
With
a great attitude like that is it any wonder she just celebrated
her 95th birthday?
Love,
Kathy
ps.
I just read an article about a 92 year old woman who runs marathons.
Her secret to longevity? Like Libby, it's a positive attitude.
Intuitive
Tarot Readings
Have
you ever been in a situation and sensed that there was more about
what was going on than you knew about? That there might be hidden
information which could help you resolve the issue?
Have
you ever wished you knew what was going on "behind the curtains"
regarding an issue you were embroiled in?
When
you want more complete, greater, deeper knowledge to help you through
a situation, a Tarot reading can illuminate the valuable information
you need.
The
highest purpose of a Tarot reading is to offer you greater knowledge
so that you can gain awareness of the many options available to
you in any situation.
During
a Tarot reading you'll gain greater knowledge about...
- how
the recent past is influencing the subject
- what
underlying causes may be affecting you
- the
person that may be of the greatest help or hindrance in the situation
- how
your actions are either in conflict or in alignment with your
inner self
- which
types of thoughts are creating or adding to the issue
- the
learning challenge for you
- the
probable outcome if no changes are made
- the
hopes and fears you have affecting the situation
When
you have more knowledge about your situation you will then be able
to choose wisely which path of action to take in order to transform
the situation into its highest and best potential.

Book
o' the Month
Books
have always been an important part of my life. When I worked at
a bookstore, I would gaze around the store in amazement at all of
the wondrous knowledge that was available to me in all the thousands
of books that were gathered together in this one place. It was like
having all of the wisest people in all the world in all
of history right in front of me, ready to share the best and juiciest
parts of their wisdom with me. Picking up a book and reading it
was like walking up to them and saying, "tell me the best of
all that you know". And they would. All I had to do was open
their books and read.
Because
I love books soooooo much, I want to share with you those that especially
excite me. So I'm starting a new feature of my Book of the Month.
This
month's book selection is Shifting
Frequencies: Sounds for Vibratory Activation from Jonathan
Goldman, an internationally acclaimed authority and teacher of Sound
Healing, and Shamael, the Angel of Sound.
There's
so much information in this book I don't know where to start. Shamael
speaks through Goldman about the power of sound in relation to color,
light, crystals, mandalas, sacred geometry, mantras. Together they
explain harmonics of sound, vibratory resonance, the Language of
Light, and so much more.
The
new energy center, the Angel Chakra, is introduced with specific
sounds you can use to activate and energize it.
It's
a book that had me consistently reaching for my yellow highlighter
to mark passages of amazing new thought so I'd be able to easily
find them again. I found myself constantly uttering "wow!"
as I read and reread certain parts of the book.
Bonus!!
Included in the book is a CD entitled "Angel of Sound".
It's difficult to describe the wonderful sounds on this audio CD.
Goldman combines the sounds of toning, Tibetan Deep Voice Chanting,
crystal bowls, flute, drums, and chanting of ancient Hebrew Kaballistic
vowels. It's an amazing experience to listen to this CD and I find
it different each time. Using stereo headphones creates a different
experience than listening through speakers. The difference may be
possibly because the vibration of the sounds entrains every cell
of the body when stereo speakers are used.
The
book alone is worth the price. The CD alone is worth the price.
Together, it's really a great deal.

Essential
Oil of the Month
Relieve
It
Summer's
a-comin', and with the season comes sore, achy muscles from activities
you haven't done all year - mowing the lawn, gardening, playing
outdoor sports, home and landscaping projects, vacation activities.
Relieve
It™ is a deeply relaxing, warming blend of therapeutic-grade essential
oils that feels soothing and comforting to muscles and joints following
exercise. It's high in anti-inflammatory compounds that relieve
deep tissue pain and muscle soreness.
The
aroma is delightful. I find it to be somewhat stimulating and energizing,
no doubt due to the aromatic properties of the Black Pepper and
Peppermint oils. The Spruce oil gives it a clean, foresty overtone.
Suggestions
of how to use it:
- Add
2 - 4 drops to hot bathwater.
- Apply
on location to relieve pain.
- Use
as a hot or cold compress.
- Add
a few drops to vegetable oil and massage into the muscles.
Ingredients:
- Spruce
- anti-infectious, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory.
- Black
Pepper
- anti-inflammatory, combats deep tissue pain. It has traditionally
been used to treat arthritis.
- Peppermint
- has powerful pain blocking, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic
properties. It is also analgesic.
