The Tipping Over Point My very first job, other than babysitting, was as a pea tester in a frozen food factory. It wasn't the job I wanted. What I truly wanted was to be a pea truck driver. But that's another story. As a pea tester, my job was to test the little green orbs for sugar content by counting out 20 frozen peas, dropping them into a saline solution in a glass jar, waiting a prescribed amount of time, and counting the peas that had sunk to the bottom. Very scientific. The peas were brought directly to the factory by trucks, dumped, processed, and frozen - all within minutes of harvesting. Once they were processed and frozen, they travelled down a conveyor belt and were dumped into a huge bin just a little larger than a Hummer. It had a triggering device which, when the bin was filled to a certain level, set off a bell in the lab where I worked. When the bell rang, usually about once an hour or so, like a well-trained lab rat I ran out of the lab and down to the bin, where I used a scoop to gather some frozen peas for testing. Then I'd punch a button that caused the bin to tip over, dumping the peas onto a conveyor belt which took them into frozen storage, where they would stay until they were required for packaging, marketing, and, finally, consumption. During one of my work shifts the bell didn't ring for almost two hours, and being the curious sort, I decided to check it out. To my horror and dismay, the bell had malfunctioned, but the conveyor belt hadn't. The result was that the bin had overflowed and there were peas everywhere! What a mess. I skated through the frozen peas, which were like little ball bearings, arrived at the button, and pressed it, causing the bin to tip over and empty. Then I turned to face the mess... and my boss. We both agreed that this was not a suitable job for me and that was the end of my career as a pea tester. This incident represents something that everyone goes through at least once in their life - coming to the tipping over point. Everyone has a bin full of "frozen peas". These peas are things you're tolerating in your life that no longer suit you... things you've been reluctant to release and that take your time, energy, and attention, diverting you from living your true Life Purpose. When your bin is full to overflowing and your warning bell has rung, it's time to tip it over and empty it. Then you have the opportunity to examine the peas it contained and choose whether you wish to send them to frozen storage, discard them, or put them back in your bin to use as you create the life you desire and live your Life Purpose.
