Taking
the Stress Out of Decision-making
Eons
ago in my younger years, I used to describe myself as someone who
just floated on the waves of life. Whichever way they took me was
fine. My
life was directed by other people. I thought, acted, and felt as
others told me I should.
In
other words, I was in victimhood.

My
very first business card |
My
life drifted along with no help or direction from me until one day,
I found myself in the position of being a small business owner.
It wasn't by my conscious choice that this happened. Other people
told me I should do it.
Suddenly
I discovered that I had to make choices and decisions. My employees
needed me to tell them what to do, when to work and where. I had
to make decisions about which jobs to take, where to get my materials,
who to hire, whether to fire an employee, how to bid each job...
the need for my decisions was constant.
At
the end of the day I'd be exhausted, not by the hard work but by
the stress of having to make so many decisions. It didn't matter
if they were small or large, all the decisons were all stressful.
At times I longed for the days when I was an employee and someone
else made all the decisions for me.
Many
years later my work had evolved from being a roofing contractor
to estimator/client liaison for a custom home builder. In my work,
I required many choices and decisions from the clients. It was common
to see their eyes become glazed as I sent them into a state of overwhelm
with the list of decisions I needed from them.
One
couple went into such an extreme state of overwhelm I was afraid
they'd gone catatonic. It was then that I became truly aware of
how just how stressful making choices and decisions can be.
I
felt so sorry for them that I decided to do something to destress
the issue of their decisions. I created a time line chart giving
them advance notice of which decisions needed to be made and by
when. They were so relieved when I presented it to them, they both
almost cried.
In
my work as a Life Coach I've discovered even more tools and techniques
to help my clients relieve the stress involved with the need for
choices and decisions that need to be made regarding an issue.
Here's
a couple of my favorites:
- Urgent/Important
Some decisions are important, some are urgent, and some are both.
The difference is the timing. Before you begin, define the time
limits for urgent and important. Does urgent mean it has to be
done within a day? An hour? At what point does an important decision
need to be made? On a sheet of paper make four columns and head
them Urgent and Important, Urgent but not Important, Important
but not Urgent, Neither Urgent or Important. Now, list all the
choices and decisions you need to make regarding an issue and
insert them in the appropriate column. You'll be greatly relieved
to discover it doesn't all have to be done today! (If everything
is under "Urgent and Important", you need to redefine
those two terms.)
- TimeLine
Create a list of all the choices or decisions you need to make
regarding a project or an issue. Next to each decision insert
the date by when the decision needs to be made. When you're complete
with the list, reorder it into a timeline. You can also input
these dates into your iPod or calendar.
If
the act of making a decision throws you into the heebie jeebies,
here's a simple yet amazingly accurate technique for making a
decision:
Envision
one of your choices. If it's a thing, such as a color you want
to paint the house or a new car you want, envision it as if it's
already done. If the choice is about you doing something, envision
yourself in the setting actually doing it.
Now,
quickly scan your body for physical sensations and/or emotions
and feelings. Do you feel a sense of dread or anxiety? Joy or
excitement? Discomfort in your stomach? Tension in your shoulders
or neck? Does your energy rise or fall?
Next,
envision another choice. When you clearly have the vision, again
quickly scan your body for sensations and/or feelings.
The
choice that makes you feel good is the correct and appropriate
one for you. Your body knows the truth and, unlike your conscious
mind, will never lie to you.
Try
these techniques the next time you need to make a decision and are
all stressed out about it. You'll be sooooo relieved!
Love,
Kathy

Interdimensional
12 Strand DNA
GROUP ACTIVATION
Although
the DNA in every cell of your body is commonly considered to be
a single strand of DNA, there actually are two strands of DNA in
each double helix form.
You
once had a total of twelve strands of DNA, or six double helix
strands. Ten of these strands were disconnected eons ago. The result
is that you were disconnected from your Divine Self.
The
good news is that those ten strands of DNA still exist in electromagnetic
form within every cell of your body. Now they can be re-activated
by you with a simple yet powerful process... the
Interdimensional 12 Strand DNA Activation
Now
is the time to activate your other 10 strands of DNA
During
the Harmonic Convergence in 1987 we, the human collective, chose
to take on the challenge of creating Heaven right here on Earth.
We began the monumental task of raising our vibration in order achieve
this goal of Ascension.
"For
those who carry the activated DNA, love will lead. For those who
are still undergoing the changeover, love will be easier to attain.
For those who have yet to awaken, fear will be amplified until
a higher way is entertained."

Book
o' the Month
Books
have always been an important part of my life. One of my most favorite
jobs was working at a bookstore. I'd gaze around the store in amazement
at all of the wondrous knowledge that was available to me in all
the thousands of books that were gathered together in this one place.
It was like having all of the wisest people in all the world
in all of history right in front of me, ready to share the
best and juiciest parts of their wisdom with me. Picking up a book
and reading it was like walking up to them and saying, "tell
me the best of all that you know". And they did... each time
I would open their books and read.
Because
I love books soooooo much, I want to share with you those that especially
excite me.
This
month's book selection is The
Artist's Way by Julia Cameron.
This
book changed my life.
Julia
wrote this book to unblock the creativity for writers, poets, musicians,
and other artists. The truth is that everyone is an artist and
has a creative spirit. Unfortunately in our culture, most people
value practicality and productiveness over creativity. The result
is that most people's creativity has become dammed up, stomped on,
and crushed beyond recognition.
Following
the model of the twelve step program from AA, Julia gently guides
the blocked creative through enjoyable exercises that carefully
open up the creative spirit. One
of my favorites was the Artist's Date, during which I had the
above cougar experience and learned firsthand about the power of
auras.
Another
not so scary experience was riding the Port Townsend ferry in the
Pilot House with my friend, Jewel, who at the time was a First Mate.
One of her responsibilities was to steer the ferry in one direction.
The Captain steered going the other way. She surprised me by giving
me the unforgettable and empowering experience of actually steering
the ferry! (It was perfectly safe. She checked the radar screen
first and there were no other boats within five miles.)
A
major focus of this book is on protecting the vulnerable inner
artist child as it emerges. One of my favorite quotes from this
book, which became my mantra for a while, is this: "Do not
indulge or tolerate ANYONE who throws cold water in your direction.
Forget good intentions. Forget they didn't mean it. Set your goals
and set your boundaries."
Everyone
I've talked to who has done the Artist's Way process agrees that
the single most powerful exercise is the Morning Pages. This
process is almost magical in the power it has to unlock your creative
spirit. I still have all my notebooks from years ago and refer to
them occasionally for the wisdom the somehow popped out of my as
I was writing.
"Okay,
Kathy. Just exactly how did this book change your life?",
you might be asking yourself. Well, you wouldn't be reading this
had I not gone through all the exercises in the book and experienced
the opening of my connection to my creative spirit. Through this
work I discovered my love of writing and the wonderful spiritual
connection that happens when I write. As a result I now have a published
book, An
Inner Journey: Living Your Life Purpose, several published
ebooks, published articled for several magazines, and this newsletter.
Plus I have about five books I'm currently working on.
Hmmm.
I wonder what might happen if you, too, worked through The Artist's
Way.
If
you do nothing more than the Morning Pages, it will change your
life
Essential
Oil of the Month
Wintergreen
This
is the most powerful oil I have for muscle pain in all of my collection
of oils.
Recently
I pulled muscles in my upper thighs while learning a new form of
Tai Chi. At the end of the class I could hardly walk. Once home,
I rubbed a few drops of Wintergreen oil on the soreness and within
seconds felt a soothing warmth spreading into my muscles. I used
the oil again just before going to bed and in the morning the pain
was lessened by about 75%. After applying it again that morning
and once at night, the next day the pain was totally gone!
Leaves
of Wintergreen were chewed by Native Americans to increase respiratory
capacity when they ran long distances or performed difficult labor.
Settlers in early America had their children chew the leaves for
several weeks each spring to prevent tooth decay.
The
fragrant influence of Wintergreen oil stimulates and increases awareness
in all levels of the sensory system.
It
is anticoagulant, antispasmodic, and highly anti-inflammatory. It's
a vasodilator and is analgesic/anesthetic, reducing all types of
pain. It also reduces blood pressure.
Besides
being effective in reducing and eliminating pain from sore muscles,
Wintergreen is used for arthritis, rheumatism, nerve pain, hypertension,
arteriosclerosis, and hepatitis and fatty liver.
Suggestions
of how to use it:
- Apply
on location to relieve pain.
- Add
2 - 4 drops to hot bathwater.
- Directly
inhale
- Diffuse
- Use
on Vita Flex points
- Add
a few drops to vegetable oil and massage into the muscles.
