Your House Has Feelings Too, Ya Know Story #1: Several years ago a dear friend and her husband moved up to Port Townsend from Texas, leaving the home they'd lived in and loved for many years. After having had several bad experiences having a rental home such a great distance from them, they decided to put it on the market. At that time the market was much like it is now... slow as a slug. Much time had passed when they finally received an offer. The deal was almost at closing when they received a frantic call from their real estate agent, telling them that the water heater had burst and flooded the house, causing quite a bit of damage. The deal fell through. When they asked me why this had happened, my intuitive response was that the house was heartbroken. It's heart burst. More accurately, the house was reflecting back to them how heartbroken they were to have to lose it through the sale. Story #2: When my husband and I bought a fixer house just down the street from where we live now, I could feel the energy of it changing from depressed to happy with each improvement I made as I cleaned and painted. One day, as I was finishing up painting the trim on the front of the house, a couple who walked by every day stopped to talk with me. The woman said, "The house looks bigger now. Before you painted it, it was ashamed of how it looked and it shrunk into itself. Now it's proud and it's standing tall." I turned around and looked at it, and she was right! It seemed to have expanded in size! Story #3: Same house as above. Before we moved in, the house required a ton of cleaning. A dear friend, Kathy Mendelson, helped me one day by cleaning out the kitchen cabinets. There was actually food left in them! At one point Kathy said she wasn't going to tell me what she was cleaning out of the drawers because I'd never want to use them if I knew. It was that filthy and gross. I spent the day shampooing the carpet while she cleaned the cabinets. At the end of the day we stood back to admire our work and we both saw a HUGE Cheshire cat grin hanging mid-air in the great room between the kitchen and the living room! My husband and I are now living in the fourth fixer house we've bought and as I clean, paint, weed, landscape, etc. I can feel the energy of the home changing from the depressed, angry, gloomy energy of the previouse owner to happy, bright energy. And so can the neighbors and the people who visit. Everything is energy... including your home. You impart your energy into the spaces you occupy, changing it so it resonates or entrains to yours. The objects you bring into your home, the activities you enjoy within your living spaces, the people who visit you... all these and more impact the energy or feeling of your home.
