The
Distance Between You and I
A
funny thing happens when people start talking about their personal
emotional experiences. Suddenly it's no longer about them. It's
about you.
This
article was first published in 2008, and it seems to be timely that
it be sent out again.
"I
figured this was just one more hairy episode. Next thing I know
they find his boat drifting in the sea. Looking back, you think,
well..."
"I
felt sorry for the kids. I couldn't do anything. But it's over
with and you have to move on."
Notice
anything out of sync in the above examples of dialog?
Here's
a hint: they start out in first person but suddenly take a left
turn and become second person.
In
case you've forgotten everything you ever were taught in high school
about the structure of the English language, first person singular
is "I" or "me" and second person is "you".
But
proper English isn't the issue here. Distancing, displacement, and
dissociation are the issues. You see, when you're talking in
first person, you're mentally and emotionally associated with what
you're saying. You experience it first hand. When you talk in second
person you become dissociated and distanced from the subject. It
becomes someone else's experience.
Most
often this switcharoo occurs when the subject turns from being factual
to being emotional for the speaker. This happens most often when
the emotions are being brought from the past to the present.
In
an effort to dissociate and, thus, save themselves from the possibility
of experiencing uncomfortable feelings, people often switch into
second person so quickly and slickly that no one - including them
- notices. This robs the speaker of their complete experience and
blocks the opportunity for them to gain new insights, perspectives,
awareness, and knowledge about how the issue is affecting them...
and what they might learn from it.
Clarity
of language produces clarity of thought.
Give
yourself the gift of wholly experiencing your life. The next time
you find yourself speaking in second person when you're truly talking
about yourself, stop. Start over again and consciously talk
about it in first person. You'll be amazed at the difference of
your experience.
Ask
yourself:
- What
are you feeling about the experience as you talk about it?
- How
might this affect what you think about it? What discernments,
judgments, and beliefs are you discovering?
- How
might this thinking affect the choices you make and your resultant
actions?
Love,
Kathy
Feeling
Stuck?
Nothing's
more frustrating than wanting to make changes in your life but not
knowing what or how.
You
feel unable to move forward no matter what you do. Unable to see
a way out.
You
know that something's not right because your Emotional Guidance
System is giving you puh-lenty of warnings. You may be feeling
stifled, depressed, angry, resentful, confused, or just plain gritchy.
Maybe you feel all of these and more. These feelings are blinking
red warning lights that it's time for you to get out of your quagmire
and begin moving again... this time in a new direction.
If
you want to get your life unstuck, you've come to the right place.
In
my life coaching practice, I specialize in helping my clients get
their life unstuck so they can move forward and create the great
life they desire... and deserve.
What
I do and how I coach
There
are many subtleties and nuances within the practice of life coaching
and it would take days to discuss all of them. Here are what I believe
to be the most important aspects of life coaching and which comprise
most of what I do:
- Listening...
at an extremely deep and concentrated level. I listen not only
to what you're saying. I pay attention to how you're saying it.
I hear the volume and tone of your voice and the words you use.
I hear what you're not saying, too. All of this is valuable
information about you and how you're experiencing the issue you're
currently dealing with.
- Reflecting...
to you what I'm hearing you say. This practice has two important
purposes: to make sure I'm hearing what you intended and to allow
you to hear clearly what you're actually saying. Often we get
so used to hearing our own loops of thought that we become intellectually
and emotionally numb to them. Hearing your thoughts from a source
outside yourself often brings surprising new awareness.
- Sharing...
knowledge, information, and wisdom I've gathered during my periods
of formal education, through the life teachings of others, and
from the lessons I learned throughout the years of my own life
journey. The knowledge I share with my coaching clients often
includes coaching
tools to ease their way as they continue on their own life
journey. Tools such as practical processes and resources that
offer even more vast knowledge about specific subjects.
- Enlightening...
as I assist you in becoming adept at shifting your perspectives
and gaining new awareness. The practice of seeing things differently
gives you a broader array of choices regarding your issues - and
your life - resulting in new ways of thinking, doing, and being.
Life isn't black or white, yes or no, this or that. It's much
fuller, vastly richer. The choices you have in any given situation
are much greater in number than you might now believe. Recognizing
the greater number of options you have allows you to make the
best selection for you... and for all concerned.
- Empowering...
you with the freedom to have your best life. Being empowered means
no longer being a victim of the whims and desires of others. It
means having the confidence and courage to make choices that are
in your highest and best interests. I gladly share with
you the powerful combination of all my learned coaching skills,
my life experiences, and my natural intuition to create an environment
in which you'll learn how to make those choices so you can create
a better quality life for you.
Always,
within our coaching relationship you are supported in a safe, confidential,
and nonjudgmental environment. Typically we will have an hour coaching
session weekly or biweekly by phone. I require no contract or
long-term agreement. Some of my clients have gotten what they wanted
within just a few sessions. Some have continued on for several years.
Some pop in and out as they feel the need.

PSYCH-K®
Free
your mind...
become the master of your beliefs
rather than a victim of their consequences
Two
important factoids about how your mind works:
- Neurological
research indicates that as much as 95% of conscious thought
is actually created and controlled by the subconscious.
- Your
beliefs are stored in your subconscious.
While
you may be unaware of their influence on you, your beliefs direct
your actions, choices, and behaviors. Your subconscious beliefs
create the filters through which you respond to life's challenges.
Your
subconscious beliefs establish the limits of what you can achieve.
"The
'secret to life' is BELIEF. Rather than genes, it is our beliefs
that control our lives. PSYCH-K® is a simple, self-empowering
process to change your beliefs and perceptions that impact your
life at a cellular level."
Bruce Lipton, Ph.D Cellular Biologist, author of
Biology
of Belief
PSYCH-K®
helps you quickly and easily change old self-limiting beliefs
into new self-enhancing ones. In just minutes you can reprogram
old beliefs into new ones that support you using the techniques
of PSYCH-K®.
Rescripting
subconscious limiting beliefs is like reprogramming a computer.
Using PSYCH-K® techniques, we use kinesiology or muscle testing.
This is is similar to using a computer keyboard to communicate with
your brain. During a PSYCH-K® session both hemispheres of the
brain are included in the reprogramming to maximize your full potential.
"I
haven't had a panic attack about my weight at all since we did
PSYCH-K and I can't tell you how liberating that has been. Sweet
freedom! Thanks so much!" - JM, Florida
"The
PSYCH-K process helped me own the belief that "It is safe for
me to speak my truth". After the work I did with Kathy on this
belief, I have spoken up in many situations where I would have
previously shut myself down. I am actually observing situations
beginning to change in needed ways, and I believe my contributions
are helping to open doors for that to happen. I have been thanked
by people in two different organizations for saying what I did
because I was expressing their unexpressed concerns, too." - Trudy
McKnight, Life and Career Coach
